Lepidonotothen kempi and squamifrons? One or two species?

We have just submitted a new manuscript!

The species delimitation of the Southern polar fish species Lepidonotothen squamifrons and L. kempi has been debated for a considerable period. In our study, we use genetic markers to conclusively show that these two alleged species are actually a single one. We make these conclusions based on the analysis of a large sample size of adults and larvae of the two alleged species, using three genetic markers (16 microsatellites, the mitochondrial ND2 and three mitochondrial tRNAs) and the application of advanced analytical methods of population genetics and phylogenetics. The robustness of our conclusion is aided by including samples of two closely related species (Nototheniops larseni and N. nudifrons) for comparison.
